About Us

Building the stoke of bikes in kids since 2012

We Love Bikes, And We Also Get to Race Them.

We open the door as wide as possible to the world of bike riding and racing for riders aged 8 to 18.

From first-time racers to international rippers on grass, dirt, or snow, there’s a home for everyone with Midwest Devo.

Devo means DEVELOPMENT.

You don’t need a fancy bike, but you do need a helmet.

Our season officially kicks off in April each year and ends at the end of October when the time changes. The team takes part in mountain biking, cyclocross, gravel riding, and track races across the Midwest, with some of our riders competing in National Championships.

We aim to encourage the next generation of junior cyclists to love the sport like we do, to be active outdoors, to be part of a team, and to give them a great start to a lifetime of cycling. As their skills develop, we want our riders to be well-prepared for collegiate cycling and beyond if they so choose.

Central Indiana is Home.

Midwest Devo is based in Indianapolis, Indiana, and welcomes kids and their families from the greater Indianapolis region. If you’re willing to drive to join us for practice, we’ll welcome you to the team.

The Indy Cycloplex is our primary home and where we spend the majority of practices unless we’re hitting the local mountain bike trails during the spring and summer months.

Indy Cycloplex is home to the Major Taylor Velodrome, a BMX track, a UCI-level cyclocross course, off-road trails, and a skate park—plenty of space to keep our kids active and busy.

How LUCKY are we?

Safety First.

Midwest Devo prioritizes keeping kids safe, which is why we focus on coach training and certifications and provide equipment that allows us to stay connected during practice with nearly 100 active kids.

All coaches are required to complete SafeSport and concussion screening. In addition, some coaches have completed development and certification programs through USA Cycling, NICA, and Heads Up Coaching, as well as first aid and CPR.

Each group of kids has at least two coaches who are equipped with radios, and we have medical kits on site available if needed.

100% Volunteer Led.

We are a 100% volunteer-run team and 501(c)3 nonprofit! Our board of directors, coaches, and dedicated parents make this whole thing work. From planning and coaching practices, to organizing several local race events, to ensuring Midwest Devo has the resources required, to provide opportunities for athletes to race at the highest level.

In addition to our dedicated coaches, we welcome parent involvement in each practice. Each age group has at least two trained coaches and often welcomes several parents on their bikes. We truly want Midwest Devo to be a family affair.

If you want to get involved financially, your donations help us with a wide variety of expenses each year.

  • Race fees for certain races throughout the year (National Championships)

  • Track use at the Major Taylor Velodrome

  • Tents, banners, and race event supplies

  • Team bike maintenance (we have a fleet of CX bikes for kids to borrow as they get started)

  • Many other expenses to keep the team running well.

Make a one-off contribution. Consider a regular monthly donation. Look at matching programs where you work. Can your business support Midwest Devo through sponsorship?

Let’s talk if so.
